Evolution and adaptation are some of the, if not the, most crucial skill-sets a species must obtain and harness in order to outlast the uncontrollable variables in life. In my opinion, the same holds true for artists of any sort. Seeing as I'm not much of anything else, I'm going to talk about musicians.

Prior to writing songs, I was (now more so than ever) an enthusiast of music in its entirety. While attending middle and high school, I would receive lunch money from my folks every week which was intended for just that; lunch. I usually ate less every day so that I could pocket the extra cash at the end of the week. I usually accumulated a substantial amount of extra dough to spend on whatever I fancied. So after a weeks "work," I would head to the local record store and purchase as many albums as possible with my remaining money. This process began my infatuation with music in general.

I began keeping tabs on albums and artists I thoroughly enjoyed, and really began focusing on the evolution of each group on an individual level. The way I perceived and felt about each group varied from record to record as they came out. Some ended up being disappointments, and others continue to amaze me on a regular basis. The groups that are still able to engage my attention today are those who outlasted all of the bullshit that surrounded, and still surrounds them today. Everything from trends in fashion, to popular culture, to the watered-down low brow nonsense some people somehow consider music.

My point, despite all my rambling, is that adaptation and evolution are necessities for anything/anyone, in any scenario. As far as music is concerned, if the change is accomplished without jeopardizing ones character, integrity, or self-image in anyway than both evolution and adaptation have been accomplished.

With all of that being said we intend to do our best to fulfill our personal needs with each new song we release, while hopefully maintaining the incredible relationship with you we have been so fortunate to experience.

I am so fucking proud of all the work that not only we, but YOU, have put into this machine.
Collectively, it's been quite the journey.
If you continue to listen, I will continue to do everything in my power to evolve and adapt in a way that I feel continues to personify the true essence of The Maine.
Real people with real ideas.

I would save my money to get the albums from my favorite artists/bands too. I try and realize that music is a powerful thing. I give it up to anyone who is trying to make it in the music business because it's what their dreams are. I am so proud to be a fan of The Maine. You guys have helped me so much in my life. John you are such an amzing inspirational person. You have such a gift with words and manage to say everything in the most beatiful way possible. I will always listen to you guys as long as you release music. Some people will stop listenin to a band or bein frienmds with a person because of change. But, I feel that change is an impostant aspect of life. We all have to grow and mature to be the best we can be, and that is just what you guys are doing. Your music has matyured so much since the realease of "Stay Up, Get Down". I cant tell you how much apreciation and love I have for everything you guys do. Evolution of anyhting has only caused impovement and that is exactly whta it has done to The Maine.

There is so much that I would like to thank you for, but I would also be honored to just have a discussion with you. In the second paragraph I do the same thing!! .... But I still eat lunch lol, and my parents only give me $15 a week and so I save the money I get back and cash in the coins at a bank and spend whatever I have on itunes cards, It helped me get Black and White ... even though we didnt have school in July but I still never spent the money left over from the end of the school year so I was really excited to spend it on that because before that I had bought Can't Stop Won't Stop, soooo it was one of my favorite things that I did during the summer :)

This, among many other things, is one reason why I love you.
Whether or not you realize it you are special. You make a huge difference in TONS of people's lives, not your average everyday Joe can say that. Sure, we all have an impact on others but yours is different and one can only admire you for it, the way you go about it gracefully with a good head on your shoulders. The way you remember who you are and keep your fans in mind every step of the way. And your really articulate too, though that shouldn't be a surprise since you ARE a musician who writes songs (unlike others..) :). Okay now I have kinda forgotten what I was going to say so I'll end it here!

that second paragraph just summed up my whole life. i do the exact same thing, i get 20 dollars for lunch every week and i dont spend any of it, instead i wait til the weekend and buy an itunes card and then i spend a good hour looking for just the right albums :)
of course none of them can compete with black and white!

I will support The Maine as long as you guys stay as real as you have been. Although I've loved your music over the past couple of years, the thing that (in my mind) separated you guys from other bands that I listen to, is how you treat your fans and how you always go out of your way to talk to as many kids as possible at every show. It's been a fucking pleasure. Thank you for letting us come on this journey with you. The blogs and the photos and all the little extras that take up your time, but you still do them anyway are very much appreciated.

I stood in a roomful of people on Friday night and watched you guys do your thing, and all around me people were singing along and jumping around and there was nowhere else that I'd rather have been than watching the music I've been listening to come to life in front of me. I was probably the oldest one in the room, but I felt like the youngest. I'm gonna come and do it all over again on Monday. And as long as you keep making the music, evolving, adapting, I promise I'll be along for the ride. And I'm bringing as many people as I can along with me.

For some reason I feel those arent the exact words I'm looking for but it's so hard to define how special and touching your words are. It's the bands that outlast the bullshit that make the biggest impacts on me, as well. I always admire the ones that don't try to fit into any mold. I think that's why I love you guys so much. You guys truly just stick with what makes you happy. I admire the hell out of that.

Well let me start by saying I enjoyed reading your blog. Its funny knowing I'm not the only one who had that journey from music enthusiest to musician. I still love music and I am constantly searching for new sounds and flavors that overall inspire me to better myself but its nice to have those rare few you can always go back to. Thats why I adore your band. Im the type that has many favorites that I come back to but I can honestly say The Maine is my favorite band. For the music. For the people you guys are. and as you said evolving and adapting. I love this newness? you guys are on. its like advaning your band and changing in believable ways. I appreciate that. I hope to be following you guys on this journey for a long while. you guys are definitely on your way to being one of the greats as far as making it far but not losing sight of who you are. sorry this is so long, but i realized trying to explain myself via typing isnt as easy as just saying it.

Wow John. That was truly incredible. Music is probably, no definately, the biggest and most influencial thing in my life. Ever since i started listening to The Maine, my life has honestly been changed. Yes, i know, its sounds so cliche` but its true. I feel like i can really connect to your music. What i love about you guys is that you put true meaning into your songs. You make it personal and deep. Some people can't handle that because they are used to hearing the crap that's on the radio right now. I love that you don't let the influence of the media and the people around you get to your music and your true values as a musician and a person. I feel that most artists today are getting too wrapped up in the media and trying to keep up with the latest trends, that they are loosing the concept of what music really is. All of you guys seem so down to earth and real. Its hard to find people like that now-a-days because everyone is so materialistic and only worried about themselves. You truly inspire me in everything you do. I feel like the only way to get rid of the shit that is going on around me in this world is to block everything out with your beautiful voice and The Maine's breath-taking sound. For me, being in high school, there is a lot going on and knowing that i have your music to turn to in the worst times is amazing. I love that you guys are so connected with your fans and i just want to speak for myself and your loyal fans that we truly appreciate it. I am happy to say that i have gotten a couple of people already in school to listen to your music and some people are now addicted..(:
I had the incredible honor of meeting you guys on August 9th, 2010<3 I swear to you that was THE BEST night of my entire life. The show was obviously oustanding but being able to stand there in front of my biggest inspirations was so surreal and it still is to this day. I wish we could have talked more but they were rushing us (I didn't even get a picture) :'( I will always be loyal to The Maine no matter what. John, you are truly gifted. As a musician and a remarkable person. Never change and never stop making music. Don't let that gorgeous voice go to waste[; I will see you guys on The Harmony Tour on November 19th<3 I really hope we can talk and maybe get a picture..? Lol.
